Is It Cost Of Education, Really?

I have mentioned this in my some of previous posts. We need better regulation and control over private education institutes. We need to get these education mafias under scanner.

Education is a basic right of people. However, if we see today, it has become business of its own kind. Higher education is hardly in the means for poor and even lower middle class. Even in USA, the situation of higher education is not that different. Is it a conspiracy to keep the costs ridiculously high? If not, what can be done to address the issue? How can we curb the costs to bring it in common man's reach?

I feel pity and aghast for the parents and children both when I hear the school tuition fees in urban private schools. For nursery and KG, which does not even qualify as education on records, the tuition fees ranges from 25 thousand to 2 lac. That's ridiculous, outrageous, disgusting and what not.

There are too many questions in my mind and too many problems to solve. We need to rejuvenate the collapsed and dying education system in India. We need to change our thinking. Each one of us needs to take a step in right direction.

We must work and contribute towards:

  1. Improving and empowering government schools and institutes
  2. Making private institutes accountable, answerable and transparent
  3. Promote schooling in native languages
  4. Reduce the unwarranted emphasise on English
  5. Stop the business of education and make education our business.

Ask yourself, if an under privileged child's one year education can be sponsored and ensured with just Rs. 5000\-, what are you spending your remaining Rs. 45 thousand  on? (assuming you pay 50 thousand tuition fees per year)
And I am only talking about money looted under the head "tuition fees", because you do pay additionally for books, uniforms, transport, events, maybe food.

  1. Is it towards EMI for lavish decorated buildings?
  2. Is it towards maintenance of glamorous staff bombarding you with English?
  3. Is it towards maintenance of social status that you have acquired by choice?
  4. Is it cost of your convenience?
  5. Or is it the cocktail of all of the above?
Guys, your kid needs a clean school campus with a adequate ground area instead of high class marble walls and floors and A\C classrooms. So if you have enough money and want to pay for your kid's well being, pay for right things and for right reasons. Be vigilante.

And most importantly keep thinking...
