Why Not To Buy Hefty Bikes

Hefty bikes from Royal Enfield, H & D, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha etc. are solely to satiate your driving passion. You can enjoy the serene long drives and excursions on these. Apart from that,  there is no logical reason to buy hefty power bikes. These bikes are not designed as city-ride bikes. The power, size and features in fact are counter productive for city commute. Increased affordability and decreased common sense of urban population had led to these monsters crowding the roads. Here are few reasons why not to buy them for daily commute:
1. As mentioned in the beginning, these are not designed to be used as city bikes
2. Fuel inefficiency - Mileage is as low as 20 kmpl although claims are as high as 35 kmpl
3. Costs are unjustified. Some bikes are as expensive as luxury cars.
4. Creates chaos in traffic. Our traffic sense and race to break all rules adds to the nightmare
5. The firing sound, exhaust thrust causes inconvenience to fellow riders on road
6. Usability of such bikes is very low. It is not a - go get an an ice-cream from the corner -bike.
7. High maintenance. Or say costly to maintain. Very costly parts can really dent your budgets.
8. Parking hassles. Hard to find a slot and even if you are lucky hard to squeeze it in.
9. Noise pollution. Often the firing is loud and noisy. Especially annoying at quiet times like late nights.
10. Not suitable for average Indian physique. You are only lucky until it breaks down one day, sending all your gathered pride and comfort for toss. You know it is nightmare ahead.

To summarize, purchasing these bikes is fine, but make sure you do justice to their existence and are not misguided into buying them. Manufacturer's job is to sell the product and not to worry about your ownership woes. Hence you should do strict requirement analysis before you purchase such a product.

Have A Happy Ride!
